two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) will use the Donor Identification Number

(DIN) Barcode labels during the collection, manufacture and storage of blood, blood components, tissues and cells donations.

Each DIN barcode label set will be used to uniquely reference each donation of blood, tissues and cells and associated samples for testing.

SNBTS also provide DIN labels to the NHS-Assisted reproductive centres in Scotland to be used in the collection, manufacture, labelling and cryopreservation of reproductive cell donations.

There is the potential that the introduction of plasma for medicines collections will increase the requirement for DIN barcode labels during the period of the contract. However, this is expected to be a gradual change and is currently unclear at what point this will commence.
