Description

This relates to the provision for an emergency service at short notice, for the transportation and housing for animals that are subject to intervention by Staffordshire County Council because of compromised statutory animal health and welfare controls.

As the welfare of the animals will have been compromised the contractor will need to be local to Staffordshire to minimise the distance travelled to prevent any unnecessary suffering during transportation. The contractor needs to be within a 100-mile radius from the location of the incident to where the animals will be temporarily housed.

Procedure

Procedure type

Direct award

Direct award justification

Extreme and unavoidable urgency

Animals needed to be taken in an unforeseen emergency and removed from the farms due to their welfare being severely compromised and, in the interim, there is a need to 'board' cattle with a suitable provider. There had not been the time to establish a contract as per the procurement regulations with this being the reason for this procurement.
