Merseytravel: Woodside Ferry Terminal Landing Stage Renewal.
Merseytravel owns and operates the Mersey Ferries Service. Mersey Ferries operates two vessels on the Mersey and three landing stages at Liverpool Pier Head, Wallasey Seacombe, and Birkenhead Woodside.
The current landing stage at Woodside is nearing the end of it’s design life and Merseytravel wishes to replace it with a stage that better fits with the operational demand and utilises best practice in landing stage design.
Operational experience has shown that the preferred solution would be for a smaller landing stage that is retained by piles in preference to the existing chain and anchor system.
We anticipate that a landing stage of 52 meters length by 12 meters width and 3 meters depth (2 meters freeboard) would be adequate for our requirements. A new passenger bridge will be required to link the landing stage to the shore. The passenger bridge will be in the order of 60 meters length with a deck width of 4.5 meters by 3.4 meters clear internal height.
Access to the vessel from the stage will be via power operated gangways (2) as recently installed at Seacombe landing stage.
The berthing face will have a fender system to accommodate both the existing and planned new Mersey ferry vessel. Overall vessel dimensions 50 meters by 12 meters with 1.7 meters freeboard.
8 No Bollards will be required along the berthing face, all will be 60 ton “T” head bollards as fitted to Pier Head and Seacombe landing stages.
Accommodation on the landing stage will be limited to a power distribution room, a housing to accommodate the systems associated with the power gangways and a small open style passenger waiting area.
Merseytravel requires a contractor who can deliver a “Turnkey” project for all marine elements including Design and Build encompassing construction and installation of Piles, Pontoon, including operational equipment, and Passenger bridge.
At this time Merseytravel is seeking to make potential contractors aware of the opportunity and would welcome an early approach to discuss our requirements prior to a formal tender process commencing.
Interested contractors should respond to this notice Via this portal by midday on Friday 7 July 2023.
