The requirement is for procurement of one supplier SFJ awards to certificate a diploma qualification (qualification number 603/6073/2 )"diploma-in-the-management-and-care-of-individuals-in-custody-or-detention "aimed at newly recruited Band 3 prison Officers . The diploma underpins the initial prison officer training setting a standard of learning alongside the level 3 apprenticeship "custody and Detention" also will be used as the apprenticeship framework in the devolved adminstion of wales

The level 3 custody or detention diploma is fundamental to underpin the knowledge of prison officers to offer a standardised approach across all custodial and detention sectors in both England and Wales. The main objective is for this qualification to provide the knowledge and skills required to work in a custody or detention environment. Officers are frontline staff who have a duty to enforce and uphold legal decisions and follow processes and procedures with integrity, honesty and professionalism. This will align to the Custody and Detention Apprenticeship Standard in England and the apprenticeship framework in Wales.
