Four-year rail replacement plan on the system at various locations along the route due to wear to ensure track is kept within maintenance limits. Lifting and packing to be undertaken across line one at known locations with a view to carry out a maintenance tamp across the system from Saint Chads to Priestfield along the off street section in stages.

Midland Metro are responsible for various structures along the route from retaining walls to under bridges, routine general and principal inspections of these structures has indicated the need for remedial works to keep them within the structures condition index rating, works include re-painting of the older adopted under bridges over this period.

Obsolescence issues are a driving factor to be addressed over the life of Midland Metro with signalling and communication and control systems in need of upgrade or replacement. We are also looking to create a smarter way of maintaining, this would be aided by the design and installation of an engineering auxiliary SCADA to enable remote monitoring of site equipment.
