two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The Department of Health and Social Care’s Spending Review settlement for 2021-22 included £9.4 million to improve maternity safety, including through pilots aimed at reducing the incidence of birth-related brain injuries. The Brain Injury Reduction Programme sets out a plan to support NHS maternity and neonatal services to halve the rate of intrapartum brain injuries by 2025. The plan will improve and reduce unwanted variance in intrapartum services culture through projects to develop consensus in clinical best practice together with the guidance, multi-professional training and practice support tools for adoption and embedding in all NHS maternity services with a focus on:a. assessment, escalation and action of fetal deterioration in labour; andb. delivery of an impacted fetal head during caesarean section (CS).The DHSC Maternity and Neonatal policy team launch the Brain Injury Reduction Programme beginning in July 2021. As part of the programme a six-month pilot testing phase will be delivered to inform the forthcoming national scale-up programme.The initial contract duration will be for 6 months or as appropriate from October 2021 to March 2022.At the sole discretion of the Authority, the contract may be extended up to 3 months, by giving one month notice to contractor. In total, the duration of contract shall be no longer than one year in total.This Procurement is covered under Light Touch Regime.
