Procedure

Procedure type

Direct award

Direct award justification

Extreme and unavoidable urgency

This contract was awarded on the grounds of urgency due to the need to maintain continuity of Private Medical Insurance (PMI) for Orbit colleagues enrolled for PMI as part of their employee benefits, as per Transparency Notice ocds-h6vhtk-05eb5c. This insurance forms a commitment of Orbit's to its enrolled colleagues.

The existing PMI policy is due to expire imminently, and any lapse in cover could result in a risk to our colleagues welfare.

Orbit engaged the Employee Benefits Collective (EBC) LLP to complete a market exercise specifically for Orbit's Private Medical Cover. EBC engaged a number of insurance providers to invite pricing to provide cover. The responses from those who responded was benchmarked to provide Orbit with a understanding of whether its renewal terms for its existing cover represented value for money.

A direct award was necessary to ensure uninterrupted provision of the expiring insurance cover.

Orbit will re-procure a new contract for the future provision of this insurance cover in 2026, with the new contract to commence when this 1 year contract expires.

PLEASE NOTE - only 1 contract has been awarded. Notice template enforced a 2nd contract to be added to allow notice to published. So contract details published twice but only one contract awarded.
