This will be to deliver a programme of Theatre in Education performances and workshops to support Dudley education settings with their Relationship, Sex, Health & Education (RSHE) curriculum provision and safeguarding. Education settings will be able to choose and book from a menu of age-appropriate performances that cover a variety of topics. In response, Relationships and Health Education has been made compulsory in all primary schools and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is compulsory in all secondary schools. RSHE lessons support children and young people to develop healthy relationships and to keep themselves and others safe, both on and offline. It also provides learners with the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.Theatre in Education (TIE) & Relationship, Sex & Health Education (RSHE)Sensitive subjects within the RSHE curriculum, such as relationships, sex, abuse, misogyny, gangs, knife crime, exploitation and substance use are often difficult to teach as they can sometimes be uncomfortable for young people to discuss and also challenging for staff to raise or discuss. TIE can add value to RSHE lessons by enabling students to be educated on these important subjects in an engaging way. Using theatre as a tool in RSHE can provide shared, imagined contexts and experiences, within which real life situations and can be explored meaningfully, with a whole class or year group. By watching a performance, students can often relate to what the characters are experiencing and without realising, receive advice and knowledge in an engaging format. Following the performance, students can question the characters about the choices they made and the consequences of their actions.
