The University is seeking an efficient, high-quality supplier of G50/MC 25% (+/-5), BSL authorised virgin timber to fuel its biomass boiler at our Waterside Campus. The woodchip must be UK sourced and under no circumstances use material derived from non-virgin timber Roundwood. The storage silo has a usable volume of 88m3. The Contract will include the delivery of an estimated annual requirement of 3,800,000 kWh. The University has pledged to become Net Zero Carbon in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and needs to eliminate or offset circa 5,000 tonnes of CO2e by the end of the decade. A key aspect of delivering this reduction is our 995KW Herz Biofire biomass boiler. In support of our commitment to tackling climate change, the University is seeking to supply the fuel sustainably and minimise embedded carbon emissions. Envisioned contract commencement 1st November 2021 for 2 years with an option to extend for a further period or periods of up to 1 year.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The University of Northampton is seeking an efficient and high-quality supplier of G50/MC 25% (+/-5), BSL authorised virgin timber to fuel its biomass boiler for the provision of heat across our Waterside Campus. The boiler uses an infeed auger to a storage silo. The silo has a usable volume of 88m3. It should be noted that in support of our commitment to tackling climate change the University is seeking to supply the fuel in a sustainable way and minimise embedded carbon emissions, for example through woodchip delivery and manufacture. The Contract will include the delivery of an estimated annual requirement of 3,800,000 kWh will be required per year. Tenderers will need to demonstrate that they will provide:Expertise in working to reduce the carbon emissions of woodchip fuel supply;A full understanding of, and compliance with, UK legislation regarding biomass fuel, health and safety, and other applicable areas; A commitment to providing an expert team to support the planning, implementation and operation of a robust, efficient and reliable service;Full details of their woodchip supply chain;Have a clear contingency plan(s) in place to ensure continued supply of woodchip in the event of unforeseen circumstances;Delivery note required with each delivery with moisture content reading and weigh ticket for delivered load.The University requires G50/MC 25% (+/-5), BSL authorised virgin timber to fuel its biomass boiler. The woodchip must be UK sourced. Under no circumstances will the woodchip contain waste wood, slab wood, pallets, wood shavings, arb chip or other material derived from non-virgin timber Roundwood unless approved by the contract administrator. The Contractor shall make deliveries of biomass fuel to meet the following requirements;Delivery before 8am;Deliveries maybe required at weekends;Ability to make multiple deliveries in one day should demand require this.Delivery of the woodchip cannot be made in an artic lorry due to space limitations, therefore, delivery should be made in a 30-40m3 sized vehicle. The Energy Centre is located within our Waterside Campus and near a public highway, details of dust suppression methods that will be implemented during deliveries to minimise dust impacts must be provided. The Contract is for the provision and supply of virgin UK sourced woodchip to the University of Northampton’s main Waterside Campus (NN1 5PH). It is anticipated that the Contract will commence on 1st November 2021 and will run for 2 years with an option to extend for a further 1 year.

The estimated contract value is 304000 GBP for the 2-year term and wouldbe an estimated 456000 GBP if the contract was extended by an additional 1 year extension.
