This specification seeks to procure Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) training to be
delivered to suitable practitioners working in specialist perinatal mental health services and
maternal mental health services across all seven regions in England.
COS-P is a parenting programme for parents and caregivers of children between the ages of
4 months and 6 years. It is a targeted-selective programme delivered in a variety of health
care settings and aims to improve children’s attachment.
The Programme is based on 60 years of attachment theory and research about how
parent/child relationships can be supported and strengthened; it makes attachment theory
accessible and applicable to parents. (Attachment theory provides a framework for
understanding children’s fundamental relational needs and our responses to those needs
as caregivers.)
