two.1.4) Short description

Medway Council are seeking to identify a preferred supplier to deliver archaeological services, which comprises strip, map and sample (SMS) of the Northern site 10.8-hectare topsoil strip by the Principal Contractor along with provision of attendance for an archaeological watching brief in the Southern Site.

The proposed mitigation will be carried out during the main construction contract and is therefore subject to Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015), with the client’s Principal Contractor responsible for the management of the site including health and safety, plant, site security and welfare.

The anticipated start date for the fieldwork is August 2021. The detailed scope and methodology of the archaeological work is set out in a Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI), produced in consultation with Medway Council and agreed by the LPA Archaeological advisor (WSP 2021).

The WSI sets out the fieldwork scope and methodology, reporting and archiving processes. The mitigation strategy is designed to preserve ‘by record’ in the form of archaeological Strip, Map and Sample (SMS) and Watching Brief.
