NHS England and Improvement South West is committed to improving the quality and performance of Child Health Information Services (CHIS) across the South West. It is a service that is deeply connected to multiple services, systems and providers and is integral in maintaining the population health of children.

The primary aim of CHIS is to support safe and effective childhood public health programmes by:

- ensuring that each child in England (GP registered, non registered, resident, and attending school) has an accurate child record on CHIS;

- supporting delivery of the clinical services, which as a minimum include NHS screening, immunisations and The Local Authority commissioned Health Visiting and School Nurse aspects of Healthy Child Programme services;

- providing a failsafe so that clinical services are alerted where children and young people have missed or have no record of interventions;

- acting as a robust and comprehensive source of childhood records relating to screening and immunisations, with the GP record as the primary source of information in England.

The CHIS will ensure that the right information is recorded in the right format, recorded only once, available to the clinical staff who reasonably need access to the information, and available for service monitoring and population surveillance.

One provider is sought to deliver the service across the whole footprint.
