Scope
Description
- Powys County Council are committed to supporting people to remain independent in their homes for as long as possible. For some people there may come a time when the additional benefit of living in a residential care home may be required.
- People are living longer, and public expectations are changing. In addition, the projected demographic in Powys will see an increased demand for specialist dementia and nursing care.
- Powys County Council's ambition is to provide high quality, sustainable care home provision for the residents of Powys that is fit for future generations.
- Powys County Council are committed to delivering the right type of care that enables people to live the lives they want close to their family, friends and community.
- To achieve these outcomes Powys County Council are exploring the development of five area homes that will offer a flexible service, making great use of technology in an environment that can offer the best opportunity for people to maintain their independence.
- This is a long-term vision which will require careful planning with the Council working alongside the people of Powys to help shape and design the service.
- The Council is undertaking an initial preliminary market engagement exercise to ascertain the current level of interest from potential partners willing to collaborate with the Council.
- The Council is considering engaging a long-term development partner(s) and/or provider(s) who would initially manage the older persons' residential provision across our existing care homes. Additionally, they would collaborate with the Council in developing 5 new dual registered care homes throughout the county. The provider and/or developer is expected to operate these services for Residential, Dementia, and Nursing care in partnership with the Council.
- The Council currently has 12 residential care homes, and the contract ends on the 31st May 2026. We would be looking for the new care provider / property developer to operate the service from 1st June 2026.
- The Council are interested in hearing from care providers and property developers and the event will be an opportunity for the council to share its direction in providing older persons care home accommodation.
