Cardiff & Vale UHB have an urgent requirement for a specialist locum consultant in Gastroenterology. This will be for 6 months the with an option to extend for a further 6 months if required.

Over the last 12 months, the HB have explored other options such as contracted agencies via all Wales framework. However, it has proven to be difficult to fulfil the role and get the required qualified staff.

The 40 suppliers currently on the supply chain into the Managed Service have not been able to provide locum cover.

There is an urgent need to backfill the consultant to ensure the risk to patients is reduced. The waiting list is currently very long and without the locum, this is creating further delays for patients in turn making their illness more acute and require a longer stay in hospital.
