Description
About the Office for National Statistics (ONS)
ONS is the UK's largest independent producer of official statistics and is the National Statistical Institute for the UK. Formally, it is the executive office of the UK Statistics Authority, a non-Ministerial Department established by the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007. It is responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population, and society at national, regional and local levels. ONS plays a leading role in national and international good practice in the production of official statistics.
Overview
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) wishes to make estimations of household vehicle expenditure, the ONS wishes to appoint a sole supplier to provide fully representative prices (RRP) for the list of sold/registered cars in the UK each quarter, inclusive of VAT. The Department for Transport (DfT) will provide the ONS with a volume list of vehicles, which is detailed by vehicle make, model detail, engine size, body type, and manufacturer month. The data set contains an average of approximately 20,000 rows of data, this will then require the successful supplier to evaluate and price each model provided.
Where no exact price can be found, the supplier will be expected to find the lowest level average price available. Furthermore, the number of exact matches must be identified in order to maintain the standards of the data that is being delivered. The lowest level averages are required to maintain the quality and accuracy of the estimates that are produced by the ONS, this also ensures continuity in the data.
This data will be also used for the ONS Prices Division to construct a sample frame from which to select a sample (and weights).
Suppliers must also be aware that the data that is provided will be utilised to create estimations of household expenditure which will be published by the ONS. Suppliers must agree that the data can be used for these purposes and also provide assurance that the data can be held for perpetuity.
Please be aware, this is an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual right for the AUTHORITY to keep the data or data downloaded beyond the expiry of the contract to comply with the AUTHORITY's obligations under the UK Code of Practice for Official Statistics as prescribed within the Statistics and Registrations Service Act 2007. Furthermore Data may be shared with other government agencies to evidence household spending figures when asked.
