two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The University of Birmingham invites tenders for the supply of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to be hosted at the Centre for Electron Microscopy to support the wide teaching and research activities at the University.

The new SEM needs to have the environmental capability; with good spatial resolution; suitable to study nanomaterials, soft materials (such as bones/tissues), polymers; nanomaterials (particles, filaments); with good chemical detection capability (ideally for both light and heavy elements); It is also desirable to have crystallographic detection capability and large chamber that can accommodation large samples and also for in-situ experiments.
