two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The University is seeking notes of interest for the supply, delivery and commissioning of a Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) system for the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS).
A high level specification is provided below:
1. This potential tender is to procure a “Turn key” LMD system
2. The offered LMD system must have solid state fibre laser with capability for performing additive manufacturing, Cladding/deposition, localised surface treatment applications.
3. The offered LMD system must be capable of delivering a maximum laser power of up to 8 kW.
4. The offered LMD system must be a simultaneous 5 axis system with controller and functional using CAM programming packages
5. The offered LMD system must have a closed loop process control and monitoring capability.
6. The offered LMD system must be capable of handling feedstock in form of both wire and powder.
7. The offered LMD system must be able to perform cladding operations on inner diameter of components.
8. The offered LMD system must be able to handle reactive materials such as Ti, Al and other alloys
9. The offered LMD system must be capable of processing 2 powders (multiple hoppers) at the same time
10. The offered LMD system must be capable of handling components up to 1m x1m x1m (in X/Y/Z) with min. weight up to 1000 kg
11. The selected supplier is expected to carry out a SAT and deliver the equipment to the AFRC / NMIS
12. The offered Turnkey LMD system must comply to all H&S regulations for the technologies (i.e laser proof viewing window, etc.)
13. The offered turnkey LMD system must be installed onsite within 8 months of award.
