An out of hours call service is required to maintain our legislative obligations to Public Safety.
Under the same provision we also need a Rescue Service which can operate within mining works.
Finally we require competent persons, trained to our own standards who can support us when need arises as part of our duties a Second Line Responder.

The Coal Authority have a legislative requirement to provide an Emergency Contact phone line on a 24/7, 365 day per year basis as well as an associated Emergency Rescue Service for Mine workings
The Coal Authority also have to provide fully trained and experienced persons who can attend Mine related Public Safety Hazards on the same 24/7, 365 day per year basis as part of our legislated status as a Second Line Response service.
Our requirements for these services will be satisfied via an Award to Mines Rescue Training Services.

This Procurement has been awarded with no prior call for competition as the current structure of our requirement means that only MRS Training and Rescue can provide all of the services we require in order to maintain our legislated obligations to public safety.
It is intended that during the next 18 months a strategic review of our requirements will take place. The aim of this review will be to determine the best way to structure our requirements so as to increase the opportunity available to the open market while satisfying our legal obligations.
