Wellfield is an oversubscribed, successful 11-16 school. We are a consistently good school and have had two consecutive "good" judgements from Ofsted. Using validated data, GCSE examinations results are above the national average and overall progress is above average.

Situated only 8 miles to the east of Durham City the school is well located for access to the A19 and A1(M). It is also within comfortable driving distance of affordable housing and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This contract is for a dedicated bus service for students attending the school, which takes students from the Eastern edge of its catchment areas. The routes will transport non-statutory, non-fee paying, students.

As demand for places at school alters year on year the school would like to be able to expand its bus routes if necessary or offer different routes to support children to attend the school, this could include changing the size of a bus on a particular route or adding another service.

As demand for places at school alters year on year the school would like to be able to expand its bus routes if necessary or offer different routes to support children to attend the school, this could include changing the size of a bus on a particular route or adding another service.

Due to this potential extra requirement this tender will be split into two lots.

All buses need to arrive at the school no later than 8.30am and will be expected to leave Wellfield School by 3.30pm with students boarding from 3.15pm for the return journey which is the reverse of the morning routes. The buses run during term time only (190 days).

Lot 2 will be a call off lot that will provide the school with the flexibility to add additional resource to current routes or the introduction of new routes depending on demand. We require bidders to submit a response that details the cost to introduce these extra services, per day and per vehicle to match existing fleet capabilities e.g. 30-seater coach, 50-seater coach, 70-seater coach.

Lot 2 will be for information only and will not form part of the overall tender score, however, we would expect costs provided to be in line with the bidder's response to Lot 1.
