Scope
Description
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) intends to engage with the market to inform the future procurement of plasmapheresis collection systems and associated services. NHSBT is responsible for collecting and producing Plasma for Medicine (PfM) for fractionation into plasma‑derived medicinal products for UK patients and is seeking to expand its current plasmapheresis capacity beyond its existing three donor centres.
NHSBT requires access to plasmapheresis technology-including equipment, consumables, harnesses, and all supporting items-along with reliable maintenance, repair, technical support, and service continuity provisions. The purpose of this early engagement is to gather supplier insight on viable commercial approaches and routes to market.
NHSBT wishes to explore a range of potential commercial models, including:
- Neutral Vendor Managed Service
- Managed Service Direct with Supplier / Manufacturer
- Direct Purchase of Equipment and Consumables
Suppliers are invited to provide feedback on the suitability, risks, benefits, and deliverability of these options, as well as suggestions for alternative solutions. Insight on scalability, supply chain resilience, operational flexibility, and total cost of ownership will support NHSBT in shaping its procurement strategy. Please contact jo.murphy@nhsbt.nhs.uk for more information.
