This is a Voluntary Ex-Ante Transparency Notice and is intended to provide notice of the Contracting Authority's intention to award a contract for Hospice Inpatient Unit for Children & Young People, including community support for Children & Young People, to it's incumbent provider, Keech Hospice to continue to deliver the services within Hertfordshire.
This service provides specialist palliative care support for Children & Young People (CYP) who either do not need access to a hospital and/or who have identified their usual place of residence as a preferred place of care / death.
Children's palliative care is an approach to care covering physical, emotional, social and spiritual support. This focusses on improving the quality of life for the child or young person and supporting their family members or carers. This includes managing distressing symptoms, providing respite care, and support with death and bereavement.
This is a very specialist service providing the only provision locally for our Children & Young People. The contract has been in place with the provider since 2013. The cumulative value since the start of the contract is £2,951,851 (excluding VAT and the value of this new contract).
The new proposed contract will be for a period of 12 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months. The new contract will start on 1st April 2023 and will end on 31st March 2024 (with the option to extend to 31st March 2025). The value of this contract is £389,129 (excluding VAT), the figure reflected in this notice is the total contract value is the total contract value including the option to extend by a further 12 months.

The service delivered by Keech Hospice is a very specialist service. The location of the service is important to provide support to our Children & Young People both within the Hospice and within their home. Keech Hospice is the only supplier of this specialist service within our geography.
