two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The NHS Long Term Plan sets out an expectation that the apprenticeship levy is maximised to support local health and care systems (including Social Care) in making greater use of apprenticeships and in creating employment opportunities for future health and care workforce.

The NHS is expected to deliver a third of the public sector apprenticeship target. A part of this and a priority is the apprenticeship delivery to support the 50,000 Registered Nurse expansion to meet the Government manifesto over the next five years.

To support this, HEE have been developing healthcare-specific occupation apprenticeships (Trailblazers) and facilitate employer engagement to initiate new trailblazer apprenticeship standards. The development of apprenticeship standards’ work remains paramount to provide scale and capacity to support the increase of apprenticeships in the NHS to sustain the future workforce. We therefore wish to continue the momentum for this work into 2021/22.
