Magnox wish to carry out pre-market engagement with interested suppliers to investigate the current market capabilities and gain knowledge about existing and future products and techniques which may assist informing Magnox in the development of the tender documentation. The procurement is for the removal of the 3.7km marine and foreshore section Winfrith’s sea-discharge pipelines (SDP) and their associated components, the segmentation of the pipeline into 5.0m sections, the onshore storage of the pipeline sections, and the removal of concrete foreshore protection.
The twin pipelines are constructed from 15cm diameter Schedule 40 API 5L carbon-steel and comprise two ‘low-active’ pipelines (leading to diffusers approximately 120 m from the shore) and two ‘active’ pipelines (leading to diffusers approximately 3700m from the shore, some 30m below sea level). The outer surfaces of the SDP have bitumen-asbestos glass-fibre reinforced coatings and are encased in wire reinforced concrete (weight jackets).
The procurement shall also include:
• The undertaking of an unexploded ordnance survey and ordnance removal where required.
• Removal of the entire marine section of the SDP including diffusers, dead-weights, cathodic protection and the sea buoy.
• Controlled segmentation and ‘end-capping’ of the SDP into 5.0m sections.
• Onshore stockpiling of the SDP sections and other components.
• Removal of the concrete foreshore protection structure and foreshore reinstatement.
two.2.14) Additional information
Whilst the pipelines are not engineered into the seabed, ‘grout-mattresses’ and ‘grout-pillows’ are present at several locations to provide additional protection to the pipelines. Concrete dead-weights are located on the seabed to constrain the diffuser sections of the SDP and to anchor the sea buoy.
