Northern Powergrid intends to purchase the provision of wood pole inspections. The requirement is to inspect up to 48,000 wood poles over 6 months based on a known supply chain capability.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement
Northern Powergrid intends to purchase the provision of wood pole inspections. The requirement is to inspect up to 48,000 wood poles over 6 months based on a known supply chain capability.
Outputs from the inspections will be used to inform investment decisions for the enduring maintenance of the asset base.
The inspection will include the following requirements:
1) Compilation of a data collection plan.
2) Photographs of the pole(s) along with the surrounding environment.
All photos shall include the geo-coordinates to record time/date location of the inspected site.
3) The inspections will include a resistograph test using a micro drill above and below ground level.
This test will be completed without any excavation works are in line with NSP/004/112 - (OHI 12) Guidance for the Inspection and Testing of Wood & Steel Poles https://www.northernpowergrid.com/asset/0/document/5332.pdf.
4) The results of each inspection are to be provided in the form of a % RSV (Residual Strength Value),.
The % RSV will inform the integrity of the pole, defects and an associated condition rating.
A percentage decay result is not an acceptable output of these inspections.
The first inspections are scheduled to commence by 1st May 2022 and will continue until all of the required poles are inspected. The anticipated completion date is 30th November 2022.
Northern Powergrid is not aware of any other suppliers in the market place that can offer the required service within the required timescales.
