The Lumenis Co2 laser is required to perform complex laser procedures including cancer treatments, rhinophyma and specialist vascular treatments. The department currently uses a Lumenis laser and has been used successfully for the past 8 years on a daily basis. The range of treatment parameters means we can utilise it for many treatments including NHS and private work, and by continuing to use the same brand of laser also means we do not have to re- patch test patients who would be mid-treatment if the laser was replaced by a different brand. With a replacement Lumenis laser, the team can simply continue patient treatments uninterrupted. Using another brand of laser means new treatment parameters may need to be met, causing delays in patient treatments and waiting times. There have been no issues with this laser until recently, but engineers having assessed the problem have said it is the age and extensive use of the machine that is the issue, essentially parts becoming past their useful lifespan and the risk to patient harm if usage continues.

Lumenis are a renowned brand, excellent reliability and maintenance is carried out quickly if the need arises. We have four types of laser within the department, all for differing laser procedures, however, Lumenis are the only company that produce this type of Co2 laser and are specialists in this field.
