Argyll and Bute Councils’ aims and objectives for the Campbeltown Flood Protection Scheme Works are to:
- Reduce the risk of river flooding in Campbeltown
- Reduce the risk of surface water flooding in Campbeltown
The scope of the contract is:
- Millknowe Flood Storage Reservoir – Construction of an impounding structure across the river and floodplain, flow control culvert and spillway. Sheet pile flood walls will form part of the storage area to protect the industrial estate.
- Dalaruan Culvert Upgrade – Partial upgrade to increase capacity for the Millknowe and Balegreggan Burns. Upsize a 270m length from the Millknowe intake. Pipe diameters will be increased to between 675 – 1200mm.
- Surface Water Elements – Retrofit of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, within urban setting, to reduce load on the combined drainage network. Providing new drainage lines for existing road drains to disconnect from the combined network. Two detention basins and two filter drains are to be provided in above ground storage in the Meadows and below ground tank type storage at Burnside car park.
