There were no conflicts of interest,

The rationale behind the relative importance of the key criteria that Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust used to make the decision:

Reducing health inequalities, facilitating choice - this allows the Trust to offer a wide range of options for patient engaging with the service, meeting the needs and preferences and individual beliefs of people from a wide range of background and cultures.

Innovation/improving access - Tai Chi has been available within the East Kent Community Chronic Pain Service since 2007. Service improvement is a routine discussion with providers at contract meetings. The virtual classes were developed during COVID and have continued to run alongside traditional face to face classes which are run from 9 venues across East Kent.

Quality & Innovation - Patient satisfaction scores are consistently high and the service and providers are currently designing a Tai Chi outcome tool which will give specific information about this intervention.

Integration, collaboration - There is direct access to Tai Chi for patients who are accessing interventional pain services at East Kent Hospitals Trust.

Once patients have completed their NHS course of Tai Chi classes they are offered the option to continue which provides significant value for patients, sustainability for the service by reducing referrals, improving long term access to health and fitness and is of social value. The classes are run by qualified Tai Chi instructors with specialist knowledge of chronic pain.
