Somerset Council are interested in procuring a contract for the provision of security services (Static Guarding, Key Holding, Mobile Patrol, Locking and Unlocking, SIA Security) for the Corporate Estate across the entire Authority. There appears to be a significant opportunity to procure improved services for the Corporate estate in Somerset that will – in most cases – save money.

At present Somerset Council has an ad hoc site by site agreement with numerous contractors to meet its current requirements. The sites vary greatly in size, with our largest building being County Hall in Taunton, and the geographical areas also differ significantly. Covering a wide expanse, this geographical region includes the central area of Taunton, the rugged coastline of Minehead, and the rural outskirts of Frome, among other areas more remote such as Exmoor.

There is a variation in the level of security cover required at each site, with some sites demanding a greater level of security than others.

Somerset Council are interested in procuring contracts for the provision of alarm and other ancillary system maintenance services for the Corporate Estate across the entire Authority. There appears to be a significant opportunity to procure improved services for the corporate estate in Somerset that is projected to save money.

The Council’s Corporate property portfolio is typical of a local authority comprising of a mixture of libraries, offices, museums, children’s centres, social care units and vacant buildings. The property portfolio covers approximately 120 corporate sites which have some form of alarm, access control or fire suppressions systems which require planned and reactive maintenance services. Contractors are advised that Somerset Council are currently delivering a robust asset reduction exercise which will seek to reduce the number of property assets throughout the term of this contract.
