At present the East Grinstead (QVH) Eye bank orders human eye tissue from accredited suppliers.

The Eye Bank assures all eye tissue products are procured to satisfy the expectations of both
our service users and patients whilst in full compliance to applicable regulations and
standards as prescribed by the Human Tissue Authority.

the figure is an approximate sum, given that each cornea will be different. additionally the amount of tissue required each month will vary.

Explanation:

There is corneal tissue shortage both nationally and internationally. Despite the UK supplying us with a certain amount of
tissues, that number is supplemented by supply from an external supplier. This
supplier (Lions World Vision Institute) is also currently on our licence for import and has already met all Human Tissue Association stipulations.
