In May 2020 a project to stratify the public based on their risk from COVID-19 was commissioned from NERVTAG (New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group) by the office of the Chief Medical Officer for England. NERVTAG established the parameters and brought together an academic team to add to their own expertise. This team was led by Oxford University Innovation Ltd.The title of the research project was “Development and evaluation of a tool for predicting risk of short-term adverse outcomes due to COVID-19 in the general UK population” and as part of this Oxford University Innovation Ltd developed the QCovid® model. The Grant award was published at the following link https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/COVID-19-Risk%20Prediction%20ToolOxford University Innovation Ltd were the owners of the Intellectual Property Rights for the QCovid® model, created following the Grant Award above. This contract could only be awarded to Oxford University (Oxford University Innovation Limited) as they hold the IPR.The initial scope of the contract is for support services to cover England only, but with the expectation that this will be extended to cover devolved authorities and crown dependencies in future.

Explanation:

This team was led by Oxford University and included researchers from the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh, Queen Mary’s London, Swansea, Leicester and Nottingham with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University College London, NHS Digital and NHS England. The Grant Award was published at the following link https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/COVID-19-Risk%20Prediction%20ToolThis Software Support Contract could only be awarded to Oxford University Innovation Limited as they hold the Intellectual Property Rights required to provide the support on this project.
