Design for Manufacture and Non-Destructive Testing
Phase One
• general manufacturing expertise and guidance for manufacture of nuclear components (as part of concept design sprints),
• involvement in design sprints by providing manufacturing input as required to proposed high-level, immature and evolving design concepts (Phase One),
• the development (in collaboration with UKAEA STEP Manufacturing team) of a quantitative manufacturability assessment tool for use during Phase One,
• guidance and assessment, using the tool generated, on general manufacturability of high-level concepts during Phase One,
• provide comment on risk levels and contribute to developing plan for de-risk activities including suggestions on changes to design to improve ease of manufacture.
5.4. Phase Two
• input and involvement in focused Design for Manufacture assessments for more refined design concepts (not detailed design),
• input and guidance in manufacturing process-related considerations to help refine concept designs,
• offer guidance and expertise for improvements to design concepts based on manufacturing-related requirements,
• toward the end of Phase Two, offer guidance and expertise related to NDT assessments.
