two.2.4) Description of the procurement

The aim of the Orthotics Service is to facilitate treatment and rehabilitation of patients, (adults and children) through the assessment for and possible provision of an orthotic device which will contribute to the management of a medical/surgical condition or disability. The service provides a continuing programme of maintenance, and repair once the orthotic device has been supplied, in accordance with orthotics service procedures and The Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) legislation. The Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA), 151 Buckingham Palace Road, Victoria, London, SW1W 9SZ.The Orthotics Service is committed to continuing improvement in the quality and cost effectiveness of the orthotic devices provided. Ensuring products are delivered with prompt, reliable delivery times and reducing the number of faulty orthotic devices needing to be returned. The orthotics service at Somerset Foundation Trust is part of the Clinical Support Directorate.  It is managed by the Orthotics Service Manager and Administration Manager. We have Allied Health Professionals (AHP’s), Occupational Therapists, an Orthotist, a Clinical Orthotics Technician, an Apprentice Orthotist and two administrators. The emphasis is on "self-help" where possible, aiming to keep patients out of medically prescribed footwear and orthotic devices. We want to work in partnership with contractors who share our aims for a first class, patient centred and cost effective service. We expect contractor/s who work with us to provide orthotic devices of the highest quality and who share our core trust values.
