The London Borough of Brent (the Authority) is currently procuring an Integrated Street Cleansing, Waste Collections and Winter Maintenance Services Contract, with the new contract due to commence on 1 April 2023.
The Authority requires provision of gritting salt supply and salt storage and loading services to support the delivery of the aforementioned contract.
The services required will broadly encompass:
• The supply of gritting salt to be used by the Authority as part of its winter maintenance activities (the Authority requires the supply of 1,800t of salt during the first contract year, and for this level to be maintained / topped up during each subsequent contract year)
• The provision of a salt barn for year-round storage of gritting salt, including maintenance, pest control and security
• The provision of salt loading services at the storage facility during the Winter Services Period (means ordinarily 1st November to 31st March of each contract year) to assist with the loading of salt onto the Authority’s winter maintenance vehicles
Please note that suppliers must demonstrate they have the ability and infrastructure to supply and load salt within a timescale to enable the delivery of the winter maintenance services at short notice and in an emergency situation (i.e. adverse weather). Therefore, the salt barn must be situated within a one hour drive of the borough’s boundaries in order to allow prompt and efficient delivery of the Authority’s winter maintenance services.
Please note that this procurement does not include the requirement to spread salt or to deliver winter maintenance services within the Authority area, as these services will be delivered by the Authority’s Integrated Contractor.
