two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for a population of around 676,000 people across the six counties of North Wales (Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham) as well as some parts of mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.

BCUHB employs around 16,772 staff and has a budget of around 1.3 billion GBP. We are responsible for the operation of three district general hospitals (Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan and Wrexham Maelor Hospital) as well as 22 other acute and community hospitals, and a network of over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. We also co-ordinate the work of 121 GP practices and NHS services provided by North Wales Dentists, Opticians and Pharmacies.

The Health Board are looking to replace its existing Public WiFi Internet service which is currently available as a wireless overlay SSID. The current service is available at all BCUHB sites with an existing corporate wireless infrastructure (circa 70 sites).

The new Internet service will comprise the following elements;

1. General Public Internet WiFi service – available to public, visitors, and resident patients at all hospital and other sites (circa 70 sites).

2. Secure Internet WiFi service at various Mental Health Units (4/5 sites).

3. Internet service for BCU staff accommodation Units – to be available to its staff residing within accommodation residences at each of the three District General Hospital sites (circa 150 staff in total). For this application BCUHB are looking for a flexible fibre based Internet service to each accommodation unit, It is proposed that this service can be enabled and disabled at short notice as staff start and leave their on site accommodation period.

Betsi Cadwaladr will be holding a virtual supplier engagement event during the 24 and 25 March 2021. Suppliers will be allocated a 90 minute slot to introduce their company, present their solutions and field questions.
