The Council wishes to undertake coastal protection works at the B5300 Crosscanonby to protect the road from ongoing erosion and subsidence due to wave and storm action.
The works require an estimated 16 300 t of Limestone rock armour in sizes 1-3 t to be delivered to the site. The works to place the materials will be delivered by in-house operational teams. The likely earliest start date will be January 2021. Other factors mean this could be delayed to later in the financial year. Deliveries will be required to access the site from the Maryport end of the A596 and head towards Crosscanonby to avoid Crosscanonby Village. Once underway the works will require a constant delivery of stone 6 days a week to keep up with the coastal protection works. The works are estimated to last 10 weeks subject to weather conditions.
