two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Secure Patient Transport Services are defined, currently, as: A requirement to transfer patients from one facility to another for the purposes of, for example, relocation or in order to receive acute or primary care treatment. Transport may also be required for a variety of other reasons including to and from Law Courts, Police Stations, private or NHS secure units and home addresses, when detained in the community, and may be required to and from any area of the United Kingdom. It is to be expected that patients being transferred within this service are at the time of the journey, or are likely to be, sectioned under the Mental Health Act and as such, there is a requirement that trained escorts will accompany all patients. We are looking to co-develop the specification with the market to ensure that what we’re asking for is realistic and achievable. If you’re a provider of these types of services and would be interested in assisting us with the specification development please contact Sarah Skilton, sarah.skilton@suffolk.nhs.uk. Further details will be shared with those who express an interest.
