two.1.4) Short description
The Met Office operates a network of circa.140 voluntary climate stations located across the UK. The voluntary observers who run these sites on our behalf are provided with instrumentation, including temperature sensors, all of which are regularly calibrated to national standards to contribute daily climatological readings. Readings are taken manually once a day from the sensor / thermometer housed within a Stevenson Screen. Quality controlled readings are then entered into the climate data record.
Our current network of temperature sensors are nearing end of life and we now need to source a replacement. Met Office therefore intends to conduct some early market engagement to determine what is currently available on/in the market to meet our requirements and will shortly publish a request for information (RFI) to aid us in this regard. If you would like to participate, please email lisa.marvin@metoffice.gov.uk and the RFI will be shared with you.
