In order to fulfil the GMC’s statutory functions, the Surveys and Reporting team’s role is to collect, clean, analyse and report information about medical education and training, for the purposes of policy development and quality assurance of training programmes and posts across the UK.

To this end, throughout each year, we collect numerous large data sets from various organisations, including the national training survey, annual review of competence progression outcomes and royal college exam outcomes. We publish these on our online reporting tool designed for user exploration, using Tableau and Oracle Business Reporting.

We undertake internal analysis of the data to prioritise our quality assurance resources and support our decision making.
