Minor Adaptations in Somerset DPS
The way we deliver Minor Adaptations Service in Somerset, is changing. We have a commissioning plan underway to have a new contracting process in place for this service from May 2025.
Minor adaptations are defined in the Care Act 2014 as home adaptations costing £1,000 or less. Minor adaptations are not means-tested, individuals who are 'prescribed' minor adaptations receive them without any financial needs assessment. Adaptations include (but are not limited to):
Rails and Steps
Thresholds
Doorways and Windows Adaptations

Small electrical works
As part of the re-commissioning plan, we want to ensure that the future service is meeting the needs of the people who are eligible for support, compliant with current legislation, fit for the future and delivers best value.
