two.2.4) Description of the procurement

Theatre and combat demonstrations in general, and equestrian events in particular, are part of Royal Armouries DNA. In the 1970s and 1980s the first Head of Interpretation of the Leeds museum, John Waller, was instrumental in the revival of modern jousting. The Royal Armouries has a 30-year history of delivering superlative jousting events. In the eyes of the international modern jousting community and the public the Armouries is proud to be regarded as the home of modern jousting in the UK. Our Easter International Joust is a flagship event, and regularly feature in regional, national and international

As such, our jousts and equestrian events are also key to our Audience Development Framework, and to that framework’s strategic ambition to drive visitor numbers and deepen visitor engagement with our Collection, and its themes and stories. For that reason these events have to strike a balance between highly entertaining theatre, absolutely compelling sport, and meticulous historical accuracy.
