two.1.4) Short description
HSE would like to procure three deliveries of liquid hydrogen in late summer and autumn of 2023. A quantity of 2.5 tonnes would be required for each delivery. HSE would need to retain the supply tanker for a period of two weeks after each delivery to connect to HSE's equipment.
HSE S&RC has experience of handling such tankers from two previous research campaigns including the EU PresLHy project, and the tanker would be stored on a secure site.

HSE would like to procure several deliveries of liquid hydrogen in the autumn of 2023. A quantity of approximately 2.5 tonnes would be required for each delivery although this could be negotiable.
HSE does not have any existing storage facility for LH2 and has previously relied on the rental of the supply trailer units. HSE are looking for a similar arrangement, aiming to retain the supply for a period of two weeks after each delivery to connect to HSE's equipment.
A handover/training session should be provided upon delivery. Information on the outlet and vent connections would also be beneficial. HSE would be happy to consider other supply options if there are any available.
The deliveries would ideally be as follows:
Date Type Quantity Period*
Aug 23 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Sep 23 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Oct 23 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Nov 23 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Apr 24 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Jun 24 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Aug 24 Delivery Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
Oct 24 Option Full tanker/ISO 2 weeks
* Not including delivery or collection.
HSE S&RC has hand on experience of handling LH2 trailers from two previous research campaigns. Details of previous work and the overarching reason for this requirement is listed below. Following expressions of interest, further information regarding the projects, the end customers and the nature of the experiments can be shared.
In general terms these tests are a key part of the aviation sectors decarbonisation strategy and this research is being performing for a global leader in this area. We are interested in a permanent facility in the near future, however, securing funding for such a thing requires grant funding for organisations such as ourselves. We have a successful recent history of receiving LH2 deliveries from BOC and Air Liquide who have supported pre-normative work, which is being used to understand the hazards/phenomena and inform best practice.
