Leeds Beckett University has secured a research contract with the Rugby Football League, and Super League to undertake the TaCKLE (Tackle and Contact Kinematic, Load and Exposure) project. The TaCKLE project will quantify the head acceleration events (HAEs) and characteristics of rugby league players, from all areas of rugby league, for up to a three-year period. Teams will be primarily based in England, with some Super League teams based in France, and potentially other locations based on promotion and relegation.

To undertake the TaCKLE project, Leeds Beckett University will procure instrumented mouthguards (iMGs). These devices need to provide valid and reliable kinematic data from HAEs collected during training and matches.
