All drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods, within scope of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods By Road (ADR) provisions, must attend a Department for Transport approved basic training course in order to be legally qualified to transport such loads.

two.2.4) Description of the procurement
The course must cover the following objectives and not deter away from these topics;
• Are aware of the hazards arising in the carriage of dangerous goods
• Are aware of dangerous goods legislation
• Can take steps to reduce the likelihood of an incident taking place
• Can take all necessary measures for their own safety and that of the public and the environment
• Can limit the effects of any incident that does occur
• Have an understanding of the actions to take in the event of an incident
The course is required to be delivered one site at Porton Down.
The course must also include the full suite of the following modules;
• Core module
• Packages module
• Class 2 – Flammable and non-flammable gases
• Class 3 – Flammable liquids
• Class 4 – Flammable substances
• Class 5 – Oxidising agents/organic peroxides
• Class 6 – Toxic and infectious substances
• Class 8 – Corrosives
• Class 9 – Miscellaneous substances
With the possibility to add on the following modules when required for different delegates;
• Class 1 (Explosives) and
• Class 7 (Radio actives)
• Tanks
Training provide to facilitate the exams for each modules and complete the required paperwork for the awarding body.
Once delegates complete the training they should receive the following qualifications and certificates;
• Certificate issued by Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA)
• 21 hours Driver CPC (as applicable)
