Section four. Procedure

four.1) Description

four.1.1) Type of procedure

Negotiated without a prior call for competition

  • Extreme urgency brought about by events unforeseeable for the contracting authority

Explanation:

There is a time limitation added to the procurement due to the terms of funding given that currently means we are unable to complete a competitive process as if we were to undertake a competitive process we the funding would be forfeit

The University's Institute of Genetics and Cancer as a major cancer research centre requires the ability to carry out genome stability/DNA damage experiments utilising ionising radiation. The critical benefit of the proposed machine is the higher energy system (160V) and tube power (1000W) which enables better penetration and dose distribution in more dense 3D structures, including organoids and "mini brain" systems. These complex structures representing human tissue, contain a much more accurate cell environment than mono layers of cells and examining their response to damage will be very beneficial to science in the Unit.
