Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council requires a feasibility study and investigative work that considers stabilisation of the furnace structures as well as opening of a section of the furnaces to members of the public as a visitor attraction. The furnace site is considered to be all of the land owned by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, including the furnace structures, area in front of the furnaces and area of land on top of the furnaces.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council requires an inspection of the furnace structures and investigations of the site to provide key details on condition and information that will facilitate the design of repairs, refurbishment and landscaping. This will enable the Council to determine appropriate actions and next steps for the design stage.

This stage of work focuses only on establishing the information for the design and development of a

feasibility report, costs and investigations. The Scope includes consulting with all stakeholders and in

particular engaging with Cadw to facilitate inspection, any intrusive works and discussions around potential

options for repair and refurbishment.
