Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL / the Employer), owns and operates three Cochran Horizontal Multitubular Thermax steam boilers, each having a maximum rated evaporation rate of 6820 kg/hr at 6.9 Bar(g) (169.95°C) to produce saturated steam for use across the Dounreay site. These boilers currently burn heavy fuel oil to BS 2869 to produce this steam. However, with the degradation of the existing heavy fuel oil storage systems and change within the Medium Combustion Plants directive, the fuel supply to these boilers needs to be changed to Class C2 Kerosene to BS 2869.
