HEE YH wish to commission a provider (or consortium of providers) to develop and deliver a Psychiatry Training Course (PTC) for core and specialty trainees in psychiatry. The contract will commence in August 2021 and will run for 3 years initially, with the option to extend for a further 2 years.

The School of Psychiatry has recognised that the course should not just be about exam preparation and should instead address the whole curriculum to ensure that trainee psychiatrists receive a comprehensive postgraduate training programme.

The PTC will continue to provide a mandatory three-year course for core trainees, the content of which will be concentrated in the first two years for MRCPsych examinations preparation, and a third year focussed on additional CASC preparation, subspecialty clinical skills teaching, and preparation for specialty training. The PTC will work with local trusts and specialty TPDs to develop and support regional teaching programmes for specialty trainees with a focus on cross-specialty modules in the non-clinical ILOs. These could be delivered as a rolling programme rather than the linear programme format of the core trainee course. Linking both components of the course there will be a commitment to develop the teaching and training resources on a virtual teaching platform the course website and the greater delivery of sessions though video-conferencing formats in order to reduce travel time and the environmental impact of the course.
