As part of our claims management function, NHS Resolution can agree to pay claims for compensation on a periodical basis for the duration of the claimant’s lifetime. We currently have approximately 2,500 periodical payment cases and this number is likely to increase each year. Majority of these cases are paid annually in December. Approximately 15% (30 - 40 a month), are paid at various other points in the year depending on the terms of the settlement agreement. The liability to make payments ceases upon the death of the claimant.

We are currently considering procuring a mortality screening service to add to our processes for confirming an ongoing entitlement to a periodical payment.

This PIN is to establish providers in the market and to understand the boundaries to NHS Resolutions requirements.
