The main purposes of the National Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Database are to support direct
patient care by ensuring that SCI patients are referred into the care of SCI centres and
subsequently managed to rehabilitation and discharge.
The SCI database is also used to monitor the level of demand for treatment services as part
of a wider strategy to ensure that demand does not exceed capacity,
The clinical database provides a service to a number of stakeholders, including:
• Patients,
• Clinicians
• Commissioners
• Patient societies
